The X-keys works particularly well with Dreamweaver MX combining MX’s flexibility in assigning keyboard shortcuts (select Keyboard Shortcuts in the Edit Menu) with X-keys offering each function a clearly labeled, consistent, non-finger-contorting, home. When your links, tags, views, and program functions have their own physical location on your desk, you can move from thinking about Dreamweaver, to thinking about the page on the screen.

Mice are great for pointing, selecting, and dragging, but pulling your mouse off of the page to hunt through a labyrinth of drop down menus slows you down and takes your brain away from the project. Keyboards are great for typing, but trying to remember if the hot key is “Ctrl+Alt+F2” or “Alt+Shift+F12” distracts you from the task at hand.

Links, tags, views, and program functions each have a clearly labeled key on the X-keys. As you continue using the X-keys, your fingers learn where those keys are, just as they know their way around your keyboard. You will soon find that you don't have to stop creative process to think about how to get what you want from Dreamweaver.
